Position Title:Physical Education Teacher (K-4)

Hours:.7 FTE, Mon-Fri Hours Vary
Salary Range:$46,936 - $90,238 (Based on education and experience; wages outlined in the Certified Master Contract located on district website)
Union:Ed MN
FLSA:Overtime Exempt
Position SummaryThe position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes, and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develops talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.
EssentialFunctions
- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, utilizing curriculum designated by Brainerd Public Schools and other appropriate learning activities.
- Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials to meet state standards.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment.
- Provides safety instructions and safety checks on equipment and field areas.
- Evaluates academic and social growth, prepares report cards, and keeps records including attendance, checklists, and census forms.
- Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
- Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution.
- Supervises students during out-of-class activities during the workday.
- Administers testing as per district practices.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Maintains professional competence through staff development and curriculum meetings.
- Creates an effective learning environment with displays, bulletin boards, and activity centers.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or administrator.
- Minnesota teaching license in Physical Education
- Additional Licensure in Health Education and DAPE preferred
- Experience in elementary education preferred
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit, stand, lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, and perform physical activities related to teaching physical education. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
Work EnvironmentPrimarily in a school/classroom setting, occasionally on field trips. Noise level is usually moderate.
