Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include, but are not limited to: emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors; using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines. Demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and facility staff.

Areas may include patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas as needed to meet health standards.

Wear the proper protective equipment following the appropriate guidelines. Keep storage, equipment and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy. Access to pagers and other technology may be required and used appropriately. Assist in the laundry areas as appropriate. Depending on location, may have access to use of technology applications.

• Perform cleaning and sanitization of assigned areas following infection control and safety guidelines.
• Empty waste baskets, sweep, scrub, wax or polish floors; operate cleaning equipment and tools.
• Maintain clean, organized storage, equipment and carts.
• Assist in laundry areas as appropriate.
• Operate technology applications as available and required.
• Follow safety procedures and use protective equipment as needed.

Physical activities include lifting/moving up to 40-50 lbs, repeated bending and lifting, standing for the majority of shift, and exposure to equipment noise. Ability to climb, balance, walk, stoop, twist, squat, and handle materials as needed.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
• Ability to use computers; prior cleaning experience helpful.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment and chemicals helpful.
• Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
