OverviewThe Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).
Responsibilities- Provide age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents as per care plan.
- Follow infection prevention and control policies and PPE usage; be a member of the nursing team and follow care plans.
- Assist with daily living activities (bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs) and provide psychosocial support.
- Assist with transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment; provide range of motion and passive exercises.
- Assist with food preparation and dining to create a positive dining experience; assist residents with meals and snacks and provide water and supplements as appropriate.
- Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed; document resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary.
- Communicate changes in condition and care-related concerns to the charge nurse; collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
- Provide housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean and functional living areas.
- Support wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation; may participate in departmental or organizational committees as needed.
- High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age 16; prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
- Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or be state-certified within four months by enrolling in a training program or pursuing certification through Endorsement; CNA training and certification provided by the facility.
- Satisfactorily completes yearly department-specific competency testing and maintains continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
- Maintains all department-specific required certifications; where applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
- May be classified as Sanford Category II Driver depending on facility requirements; must have a valid driver’s license and be medically qualified to drive as per Sanford Driving Policy.
