Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
The purpose of the Junior Estimator is to support the preparation of accurate and competitive estimates for projects, products and services. Working closely with the sales team, internal departments, suppliers and external contractors, you will research costs, obtain quotations and consider time-related costs across design, project management and installation. You will support customer proposals, track project costs and interpret customer specifications to calculate accurate project budgets.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to present their analysis and recommendations to the Management team.
- Work from technical drawings and specifications to produce accurate and effective quotations in response to customer requests.
- Research and present cost-saving opportunities through the supply chain, fabrication methods, installation and value engineering.
- Support the Sales team by attending customer meetings and contributing to technical presentations, engineering discussions and commercial conversations where required.
- Consult with internal departments and external partners to develop accurate tender costs.
- Engage with the supply chain to provide achievable and value-for-money solutions that meet customer requirements.
- Support the completion and maintenance of tender compliance documentation.
- Work effectively under pressure to meet goals, budgets and deadlines.
- Keep up to date with the latest regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Continuously improve through feedback and lessons learnt from completed projects and tender submissions.
- Present estimating analysis and recommendations to the Management team.
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams, suppliers and external contractors.
- Support the Sales team throughout the proposal and tender process.
- Ensure estimates are accurate, commercially viable and aligned with customer specifications.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties required in line with the needs of the business.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential:
- A methodical and organised approach to work.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural or engineering drawings.
- Strong analytical abilities and an analytical mindset.
- Working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and word processing programmes.
- Good mathematical and IT skills.
- Ability to coordinate work and operate independently.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
Desirable:
- GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.
- Knowledge of CAD software.
- Experience with in the structural and architectural steelwork market.
Hours:
Full-time, Monday to Friday
