Recycling Centre Site Operative – Braintree

Braintree, Essex
Contract type:
Part time, annualised hours (minimum 7.4 hours per shift)
Salary: £25,959 per annum (full time equivalent)
Expiry date: 24/07/2026
Your base recycling centre will be Braintree, but you may need to work at other centres within a 20‑mile radius. The role requires a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle or other suitable means of transportation.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the public with questions, queries or complaints.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and risk‑free site.
- Provide clear instructions to subcontractors/hauliers.
- Operate plant machinery and oversee waste movements.
- Ensure proper storage of materials for optimal recycling.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Contribute to safe and efficient site operations.
- Support the team with administrative tasks as required.
- Work at alternative recycling centres when needed.

Essential qualifications and experience:
- Able to work on foot for lengthy periods of time.
- Ability to work without supervision as well as part of a team.
- Experience in a customer‑facing position.
- Ability to complete manual handling tasks.
- Ability to read and write basic written material.
- Willingness to learn new systems.
- Willingness to complete required training such as First Aid, Plant Operator, and Fire Marshall.
Desirable qualifications and experience:
- Full driving licence.
- Computer literate, especially Microsoft Excel and Outlook, with good administrative skills.
- IOSH Working Safely or equivalent safety accreditation.
- NPORS or similar plant operator licence/qualification for material handler, with previous experience operating plant machinery preferably in the waste industry.
Other requirements:
- Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, or other suitable means of transportation.
- DBS check may be required; you will need to register with the DBS update service if your role requires it.
