Position Title: Interpretive Intern
Reports To: Dana Morrison
Position DetailsThe Stewards Individual Placement Program (STE) offers service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve natural resources. Interns work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits to build capacity, develop community relationships, and support ecosystem health.
The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan Historic Site, part of the North Dakota State Historical Society, interpret the history and culture of the Lewis and Clark expedition. The intern will assist with interpretive programming, exhibits, education materials, and outreach to educate and inspire visitors about the significance of Lewis and Clark's journey.
The intern will engage with the Lewis and Clark Trail team monthly to foster connections and communication.
The role involves interpreting the history and culture of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and the ND Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center through talks, guiding tours, answering questions, and outreach activities.
Responsibilities- Interpreting history, culture, and information at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center
- Practicing and teaching safety awareness
- Public speaking
- Additional duties as assigned
- One year of college
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle safely
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team
- Resident within 20 miles of the interpretive center
- Language diversity
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Ameri Corps education award of $1,824.07 (pre-tax) upon completion
- Weekly living allowance: $530 (pre-tax)
- Weekly housing allowance: $200 (pre-tax, no on-site housing)
- $850 professional development funds
