Position: Project Superintendent - Special Projects!
Construction Site Superintendent – Special Projects Division
A leading general contractor with a strong presence across Canada is seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to join its Special Projects Division in Toronto. This division focuses on fast‑track, complex, and high‑value renovation, retrofit, and new build projects across commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of construction site operations, providing strong field leadership while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and schedule performance.

Key Responsibilities
Site Operations and Execution

Direct and coordinate all on‑site construction activities from mobilization through substantial completion, ensuring work is executed in accordance with contract documents, applicable codes, and project specifications.

Develop, maintain, and update the site construction schedule in collaboration with the Project Manager, and hold subcontractors accountable to milestone dates and sequencing requirements.

Oversee site logistics, laydown areas, crane picks, material deliveries, and temporary works to maintain an organized and productive site environment.

Conduct daily site walks to monitor progress, identify deficiencies, and resolve field conflicts before they impact schedule or quality.

Review drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to anticipate constructability issues and coordinate solutions with the project team.

Manage project closeout activities including deficiency walkthroughs, commissioning support, and handover coordination.

Health, Safety, and Environment

Champion a safety‑first culture on site, ensuring full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, company safety programs, and project‑specific safety plans.

Conduct and document daily toolbox talks, site inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.

Enforce site access controls, PPE requirements, and safe work procedures for all workers, subcontractors, and visitors.

Liaise with Ministry of Labour inspectors and respond to any compliance orders in a timely and professional manner.

Subcontractor and Trade Coordination

Supervise, direct, and coordinate the work of all subcontractors and trades on site, ensuring activities are properly sequenced and conflicts are resolved efficiently.

Participate in subcontractor pre‑construction meetings to align on scope, safety expectations, and site rules.

Monitor subcontractor manpower levels and productivity, escalating concerns to the Project Manager when required.

Review and verify subcontractor daily reports, progress claims, and site instructions.

Quality Control

Implement and enforce the project quality control plan, conducting inspections at critical milestones and holding subcontractors to defined standards.

Identify and track deficiencies throughout construction, ensuring timely resolution prior to occupancy.

Coordinate third‑party inspections, testing, and commissioning activities with consultants and authorities having jurisdiction.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain detailed daily site reports documenting weather conditions, manpower counts, site activities, visitors, and any notable events or incidents.

Track and document site directives, RFI responses, and field changes, ensuring the project record remains current and accurate.

Attend and contribute to weekly project meetings, providing clear and accurate field updates to the project team and client representatives.

Stakeholder and Client Relations

Maintain a professional and collaborative relationship with the client's site representative, consultants, and building management where applicable.

Communicate proactively with neighbours, building occupants, and other affected parties to manage site impact in occupied or sensitive environments.

Qualifications

Minimum 8 years of progressive field experience in the construction industry, with a demonstrated track record supervising commercial, institutional, or renovation projects in an urban environment.

Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is an asset;
