Job Summary

Duties are assigned as determined by students’ needs as per Ministry of Education regulations and Board policies, procedures, and practices.

Educational Resource Workers work as a collaborative team member to facilitate the inclusion of students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs. The Educational Resource Worker is assigned to a Family of Schools and is accountable to the School Principal and/or designate.

Job Responsibilities
  • Educational Resource Workers work collaboratively and in conjunction with the Special Education team, assist in the identification, development and implementation of strategies and programs to support students’ identity, engagement, well-being and learning strengths and challenges of student(s).
  • Provides support for the safety, medical and physical needs of students.
  • Assist with mobility of students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs including lifting, transferring, toileting and positioning to facilitate independence and inclusion.
  • Work with students both individually and/or in a group setting.
  • Ability to work with students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, good communication skills, ability to work as a team member, flexibility, high degree of sensitivity and diplomacy.
  • Ability to deal with potentially stressful and emergent situations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience /

Skills and Qualifications
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Educational Assistant (EA), or equivalent as deemed by the Employer and/or Secondary school diploma with entry level knowledge of Early Childhood Education (ECE) (EA) practices.
  • One (1) year proven or recent experience working with students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs preferred.
  • Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioral disabilities is strongly preferred and school-based experience is a definite asset.
  • Candidates must be capable of performing the essential physical duties of the position, such as lifting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and utilizing BMS techniques where required.
  • May be required to receive training in CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and/or other emergency techniques.

Police Record Check: This role will require a Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check dated with six (6) months of hire date and to be provided to Human Resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for any cost associated with obtaining. The Police Record Check will be required to be renewed every 5 years.
