Job Summary
CIMT College seeks an instructor to teach the Paralegal program, registered with the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. The successful candidate will follow CIMT College’s policies and procedures.
Courseware, resources, evaluations, and daily lesson plans are provided in an Instructor Manual. The instructor is responsible for following the provided instruction manuals and using the resource materials to train students with the required knowledge and skills to prepare them for employment in the field.
Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field.
Instruct the curriculum using only pre‑authorized and provided materials.
Teach students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, case studies, and independent or group projects.
Employ appropriate adult teaching and learning strategies to communicate the subject matter to diverse students.
Administer and mark quizzes, assignments, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress according to guidelines and procedures.
Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student marks promptly.
Provide feedback on student performance.
Arrange feedback from students on the instructor, content, and facility at the end of each course.
Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and individual circumstances in a multicultural environment.
Resolve student complaints and concerns with a positive and professional attitude.
Maintain attendance records accurately.
Ensure classrooms are left in a clean, orderly fashion at the end of class without loss or damage to equipment or other resources.
Provide support to the admissions team with potential students who have questions about the program or future career.
Participate in scheduled meetings and annual events such as graduation.
Maintain confidentiality of student privacy and information.
Stay current in the subject matter through professional development.
Display an attitude of teamwork and problem solving.
Perform other related duties as required.
Skills Required
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database systems.
Excellent oral and written communication; ability to present information in a way students understand and adapt to different learning styles.
Professional business attire and interpersonal skills to act as a mentor and role model.
Lawyer or licensed paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
Three years of working experience (except for non‑substantive law courses).
At least one year of teaching experience or formal training in education that resulted in a degree, diploma or certificate being awarded.
Teaching of Adults certificate an asset.
Qualifications
48 months of work experience in the vocation; or
36 months of teaching experience in the vocation and 24 months of work experience in the vocation; or
24 months of work experience in the vocation and 12 months of teaching experience in the vocation.
Hold a Bachelor’s degree from a Canadian university or an equivalent degree.
Graduate of a College of Applied Arts and Technology or equivalent.
Graduate of a registered OCC or equivalent.
Meet instructor qualification standards as outlined in the Regulations to Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005.
Must be available to teach on campus – Brampton as per the accepted schedule.
