DATES OF WORK: Sunday Library Service will be offered for the session:
January 10, 2027 – December 19, 2027.

(Excluding the following dates: March 28, 2027, May 23, 2027, August 1, 2027, September 5, 2027, and October 10, 2027)

The successful candidate may be required to start December 6, 2026, for training purposes. Training hours will be scheduled and confirmed at the time of offer.

HOURS OF WORK: Regular Sunday hours:
January 10, 2027 – December 19, 2027
12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Supervisory/In Charge staff in the Branch/Department Head, Assistant Branch/Department Head, Senior Branch Head/Senior Department Head, Assistant Department Head, Librarian, Operations Supervisor, Senior Library Assistant classifications will be required to work either 11:45am-4:45pm OR 12:15pm to 5:15pm (with some exceptions).

BRANCH CLOSURE: Staff assigned to branches that close during the Sunday session for State of Good Repair (SOGR) projects will be assigned to work at an alternate location.

PROGRAMMING: Staff positions with Programming in their job description (e.g. Library Assistant, Senior Library Assistant, Librarian, Digital Design Technician, and Branch/Department Head) may be called on to offer library programs. To support staff who are assigned to one of these positions and have no experience in programming, training will be available.

* Staff responsible for delivering programming on Sundays will be required to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check

PAYMENT: Employees who work on Sundays shall be paid a premium for all hours worked of $5.00 per hour.

JOB DESCRIPTION

SPECIFIC POSITION INFORMATION: The successful applicant will be required to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.

JOB SUMMARY
  • Under the direction of the designated supervisor, participates in the direction and supervision of the overall branch service programme
  • Supervises assistants and pages in the assigned areas of work. Takes responsibility for performing and/or coordinating more complex tasks
DUTIES
  • As a member of the supervisory team, shares responsibility for the day to day service to patrons,
  • efficient operation and orderly appearance of the branch
  • Suggests new or improved work routines
  • Identifies work requirements, assigns tasks and coordinates the work of clerical and Page staff to ensure
  • that procedures are carried out as specified
  • Assists in training clerical staff. Selects and trains Page staff as delegated
  • Prepares schedules and time and attendance reports as required
  • Provides verbal input to performance appraisals of staff
  • Compiles data for statistical reports
  • In the absence of the designated supervisor, takes responsibility for the branch
  • Assists patrons in the use of library materials
  • Supervises the work of junior staff and liaises with other branches or departments as necessary
  • Plans and conducts programmes suitable for people of different ages and cultural backgrounds
  • Assists in maintaining up-to-date and orderly materials collection
  • Selects materials for outreach services as required and performs related clerical duties
  • Visits institutions to provide outreach service when necessary
  • Assists in developing a community liaison
  • Participates in the performance of general clerical routines, such as desk duty, filing and keyboarding
  • Performs other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma from a Library Technicians course from a community college or similar institution or equivalent combination of education and related experience
