Learning Bird supports First Nations, Métis and Inuit schools and Nations in building curricula, custom courses, and digital resources. Learning Bird is a 100% remote company with contributors located across Canada.
Role SummaryYou are a K-12 curriculum specialist who designs, develops and/or revises community-based curricula in accordance with provincial or community standards. This includes defining learning objectives, creating or reviewing monthly and weekly plans, and selecting instructional materials. You will craft educational experiences that blend pedagogical expertise, digital fluency, and data-informed assessment to foster effective learning outcomes.
In this freelance role, you will travel with the Learning Bird team to communities to engage educators, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers, gather materials, and help define the curriculum framework. Once the materials have been collected, you will engage in a collaborative, iterative curriculum-writing process. Throughout this process, you will work alongside the Learning Bird team, educators, administrators, and community members to ensure the curriculum’s cultural relevance, developmental appropriateness, and usability.
You may also be asked to create and deliver professional development workshops for educators. These workshops typically focus on integrating community needs and Indigenous ways of knowing into classroom environments. These professional development sessions are often delivered in person in the communities we support.
Personality ProfileThis role requires you to shift smoothly as demands change. You will need to be flexible, versatile, and even-keeled. You will be asked to display empathy and build bridges with others, and be a strong communicator. You will be critical in resolving conflicts when differences of opinion arise among working group members. You must display an inherent sense for collaboration—understanding when to be vocal, when to motivate others more subtly, and when to let stakeholders work things out on their own.
