Civil Mining Engineer - Independent Contractor

Location:

St. John's, NL;
Brampton, Sudbury; or North Bay, ON

Hourly Rate:  $100 - $150 per hour. Compensation varies based on experience, certifications, and location.

Job Description
We are seeking a seasoned Civil Mining Engineer to serve as an Independent Contractor for our Mining Group, working on diverse underground mining projects.

Responsibilities

Inspect new and existing mining sites to determine optimal material extraction methods, including site visits and analysis of geological data.

Provide mining engineering and design services for underground mine studies (scoping, prefeasibility, feasibility, detailed design, and NI 43-101 technical reports).

Coordinate mining engineering projects with mining teams and other engineering disciplines (electrical/Instrumentation, mechanical, civil/structural/architectural).

Oversee preparation of mining engineering drawings in partnership with the Mining Designer.

Complete routine reporting and other required documentation.

Communicate effectively and professionally with team members.

Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies, and with local, state, and federal laws.

Prepare mining equipment specifications and assist with procurement.

Develop technical specifications based on input from other disciplines.

Write technical memos and reports within areas of expertise.

Contribute to engineering, CAPEX, and OPEX cost estimates.

Design mine infrastructures, ventilation systems, backfill systems, and other mining services.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent degree.

Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province (mandatory).

Minimum 15 years of project engineering experience.

High proficiency in underground mining design and planning software (Deswik, Datamine, Vulcan, Surpac, Minesight).

Understanding of key mine components (processing, tailings, infrastructure).

Operational experience with underground mining (cut & fill, bulk mining, sub-level block caving, block caving).

Organized, self‑motivated, proactive, detail‑oriented, with strong communication skills.

Sound knowledge of design engineering codes and technical standards.

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

AutoCAD or Micro Station experience required.

Extensive knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and guidelines.

Knowledge of mining‑related processes is a definite asset.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Experience applying procedures and workflows in project execution.
