Job Summary: To provide technical leadership for advanced controls, automation, robotics, and technical support for manufacturing equipment and systems at Hydroform facility. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, improving, and maintaining PLC, HMI, robotic, welding, safety, and data collection systems to support production uptime, quality, safety, and continuous improvement. This position will act as a technical escalation resource for complex equipment issues, support new technology implementation, and help standardize controls practices across the plant.
Required Education and Experience:
- University and/or technical college diploma/degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, Controls, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field with the following experience:
- Minimum 5 – 10 years of controls, automation, robotics, welding, and manufacturing support experience in the automotive industry.
- Strong troubleshooting experience with automated assembly lines, presses, projection welding, MIG welding, resistance welding, robotic cells, conveyors, safety circuits, sensors, vision systems, and related manufacturing equipment.
- Strong knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs, including Control Logix/Compact Logix platforms, Studio 5000, ladder logic, I/O troubleshooting, online diagnostics, program backups, and change control.
- Strong knowledge of HMI systems, including Panel View, Factory Talk View, HMI troubleshooting, screen modifications, alarms, and operator interface improvements.
- Strong robot troubleshooting and programming skills, including robot recovery, collision troubleshooting, I/O interface, weld interface, and cycle optimization.
- Strong understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols, including Ethernet/IP, managed switches, machine networks, PLC-to-PLC communication, and device-level troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of machine safety systems, safety PLCs, safety relays, light curtains, gate interlocks, E-stops, safety circuits, and LOTO requirements.
- Experience supporting plant-floor data collection systems, including downtime tracking, cycle time monitoring, production reporting, OPC-UA, Ignition, SQL, Power BI, or similar systems is an asset.
Essential Functions:
- Provide advanced controls and automation support for production equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, welding systems, sensors, safety systems, servo systems, VFDs, and industrial networks.
- Act as a technical escalation resource for complex downtime issues when additional support is required beyond frontline production and maintenance troubleshooting.
