Role Summary

The Program Director is a senior leadership role responsible for strategic planning, orchestration, and successful delivery of complex, multi-year data and technology programs across the Residential IT portfolio. This role requires strong architectural and technical competence to understand how systems integrate, how data flows, and how design decisions impact delivery. Technical fluency is essential for managing interdependencies, identifying risks, and guiding issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management & Source Of Truth

  • Maintain an accurate, continuously updated portfolio backlog including scope, milestones, business priorities, risks, dependencies, and delivery status.
  • Support long-range planning ensuring alignment between business priorities, capacity, budgets, and technical feasibility.
  • Provide insights on delivery performance, emerging risks, portfolio health, and critical decision points.

Technical & Architectural Competence

  • Understand enterprise architecture, data flows, integration patterns, and system interactions to guide decisions.
  • Interpret architecture diagrams, data flow maps, and platform capabilities to assess risks and delivery implications.
  • Engage with architects and engineers to validate technical feasibility and design alignment.
  • Evaluate technical debt impacts, modernization approaches, and platform constraints.

Delivery Leadership & Execution

  • Provide hands-on leadership across multi-year programs ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets.
  • Direct teams in creating integrated delivery plans grounded in architectural realities.
  • Ensure execution follows governance frameworks, engineering standards, and best practices.
  • Drive continuous iteration of plans and features as business and technical requirements evolve.

Interdependency & Release Management

  • Identify, track, and manage interdependencies across domains.
  • Leverage architectural understanding to anticipate collisions, sequencing conflicts, and integration risks.
  • Facilitate integrated release planning with product, business, and technology stakeholders.

Business Alignment & Outcome Delivery

  • Ensure business outcomes guide solution design and delivery decisions.
  • Embed business partners within delivery teams.
  • Maintain focus on the "Why", "How", and "Who will use this" across all phases.
  • Validate delivered capabilities meet expected business and technical value.

Coaching, Leadership & Team Enablement

  • Mentor PMs, delivery leads, analysts, and engineers to raise delivery maturity.
  • Foster collaboration, unblock teams, and support skills development.
  • Build psychological safety and drive high-performance team culture.

Risk, Issue & Decision Management

  • Identify risks early through architectural understanding and technical analysis.
  • Facilitate timely escalations and structured mitigation planning.
  • Maintain traceability of decisions and ensure transparency across leadership.

Governance & Executive Communication

  • Establish and evolve governance processes including architectural checkpoints and design reviews.
  • Provide structured reporting with clarity on risks, decisions, and financial position.
  • Maintain executive confidence through strong, transparent communication.

Financial & Vendor Management

  • Own multi-year program financials, forecasting, and variance management.
  • Manage external vendor relationships and integration within delivery plans.
  • Ensure resource and financial alignment with strategic priorities.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in technology program/project leadership.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, data flows, and integration patterns.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale, multi-year programs.
  • Experience with data platforms, APIs, microservices, cloud technologies, and large-scale systems.
  • Strong communication, executive presence, and influencing skills.
  • Financial management and forecasting expertise.
  • PMP, PgMP, Agile/SAFe certifications considered an asset.
