Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Account Manager – Freight Brokerage Division to help lead, develop, and grow our freight brokerage operations.

The successful candidate must have hands‑on freight brokerage experience, a strong understanding of the Canadian and U.S. transportation markets, and proven experience managing customer accounts, carrier relationships, and trailer pool operations.

This role requires an individual who can manage the complete brokerage process while maintaining service standards, protecting profitability, and supporting the long-term growth of the division.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full freight brokerage process from load tender through final delivery.
  • Develop, maintain, and grow relationships with existing and prospective customers.
  • Source, qualify, negotiate with, and onboard reliable carriers across Canada and the United States.
  • Post freight, negotiate carrier rates, secure capacity, book loads, and maintain profitable margins.
  • Coordinate pickups, delivery appointments, shipment tracking, proof of delivery, and customer updates.
  • Proactively resolve delays, service failures, claims, rate disputes, and other operational issues.
  • Ensure carriers meet all company insurance, safety, authority, compliance, and documentation requirements.
  • Monitor market conditions, lane pricing, capacity availability, and carrier performance.
  • Build and maintain a strong carrier network for spot, contract, regular, and dedicated freight.
  • Manage customer and carrier trailer pools, including trailer inventory, location, utilization, dwell time, interchange records, and recovery of overdue equipment.
  • Coordinate with customers, warehouses, drivers, carriers, and internal operations regarding trailer availability and movement.
  • Minimize trailer detention, excessive dwell time, unauthorized trailer use, equipment shortages, and unnecessary costs.
  • Review load profitability, account performance, customer growth, carrier performance, and service levels.
  • Prepare customer quotations, lane pricing, tenders, bids, proposals, and service agreements.
  • Support the continued development and expansion of the freight brokerage division.
  • Maintain accurate shipment, carrier, customer, and equipment records within the transportation management system.
  • Ensure all required shipping documents, rate confirmations, delivery receipts, and accessorial approvals are properly collected.
  • Work closely with accounting regarding carrier invoices, customer billing, accessorial charges, claims, deductions, and payment disputes.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service while protecting company profitability and operational standards.
Qualifications
  • Minimum five years of experience in freight brokerage, third‑party logistics, transportation, or a similar role.
  • Proven experience managing customer accounts and carrier relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of cross‑border freight transportation between Canada and the United States.
  • Practical experience managing customer or carrier trailer pools is required.
  • Strong understanding of truckload, dry van, dedicated, spot‑market, and contract freight.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate customer and carrier rates while maintaining service quality and profitable margins.
  • Strong knowledge of carrier compliance, insurance, operating authority, safety requirements, and freight documentation.
  • Experience using load boards, transportation management systems, shipment tracking platforms, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, problem‑solving, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple shipments, customers, and operational priorities.
  • Existing customer relationships, carrier relationships, or an established book of business will be considered a strong asset.
What We Offer
  • An established book of business and freight volume to begin working with.
  • The opportunity to help build and lead a growing freight brokerage division.
  • Competitive base salary with performance‑based commission or bonus opportunities.
  • Long‑term career growth and leadership opportunities.
  • Support from an established asset‑based transportation and logistics operation.
