The Inventory Controller is responsible for the stock position held in the system, across raw materials, work in progress and finished goods, and for making sure it matches what is actually on the floor. The company's stock records have to be right, and this position owns that. Warehouse operations move the stock, the Inventory Controller makes sure every one of those movements is recorded properly, reconciles the numbers, and provides the inventory reporting the business plans against.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Theoretical Stock Integrity and Data Management
  • Monitors inventory transactions every day (receipts, issues to production, transfers, returns and outbound) and catches postings that are late, missing, duplicated or booked to the wrong item or location.
  • Reconciles system stock against physical stock and chases every meaningful discrepancy until the cause is known.
  • Controls how adjustments are made. Approves what falls within delegated limits, escalates what does not, and keeps a clear trail of every change.
  • Keeps inventory master data clean, including item codes, units of measure, conversion factors, locations, lot and shelf-life attributes and minimum and maximum levels.
  • Builds a standard for production waste, and monitors actuals against it.
Cycle Counting, Physical Inventory and Audit
  • Designs and owns the cycle-count and physical inventory program, including how often each class of stock is counted, how count populations are chosen, blind counting, and the coverage expected.
  • Plans counts with warehouse operations and production so counting never gets in the way of service, and directs the people assigned to count.
  • Reviews count results independently, calls for recounts when something looks wrong, and makes sure no variance is posted before it has been investigated and approved.
Reporting, Analytics and Data Governance
  • Owns inventory reporting from start to finish: stock position, movements and adjustments, count accuracy, ageing, slow-moving and obsolete stock and inventory value by category.
  • Builds the reporting the business does not have yet, using structured Excel models, Power Query and dashboards, and gradually replaces manual work with routines that run the same way every time.
  • Agrees the inventory KPIs with the Supply Chain Manager, publishes them on a fixed schedule, and explains what moved and why.
  • Supports month-end and year-end close with inventory valuation reconciliation, recommendations on provisions and write-offs, and clear variance explanations for Finance.
  • Brings order to inventory data: one source of truth, clear ownership of each report, version control, and calculation logic that is written down.
Control Framework and Continuous Improvement
  • Writes the inventory procedures covering counting, adjustments, transfers, scrap, returns and quarantine, puts them into practice, and trains people on them.
  • Looks for the errors that keep coming back, fixes the cause with operations, production and procurement, and follows through until they stop.
  • Sets and monitors…
