Position Summary
The Inventory Control Coordinator is responsible for managing, tracking, and maintaining accurate inventory levels of raw materials, consumables, and finished steel components within a fabrication shop. This role ensures materials are available to support production schedules while minimizing waste, shortages, and excess stock.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of structural steel, plate, pipe, hardware, and shop consumables
- Perform regular cycle counts and full inventory audits to ensure accuracy
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders and mill test reports (MTRs)
- Label, tag, and organize materials for efficient shop floor access and traceability
- Track heat numbers and material certifications where required
- Coordinate with purchasing to reorder materials based on demand and lead times
- Issue materials to shop personnel and track usage per job/project
- Maintain accurate records in inventory management systems (ERP/MRP)
- Identify and resolve discrepancies, shortages, or damaged materials
- Optimize storage layout for efficiency, safety, and space utilization
- Work closely with production, estimating, and project management teams
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures
- High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary in supply chain/logistics is an asset)
- 2+ years of inventory control experience (steel fabrication or manufacturing preferred). Construction/Steel Fabrication experience an asset
- Knowledge of structural steel materials, shapes, and grades is a strong asset
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and inventory tracking software
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to read shop drawings and material lists (asset)
- Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Basic computer skills (Excel, inventory systems)
- Inventory accuracy and control
- Time management and multitasking
- Problem-solving and discrepancy resolution
- Communication and teamwork
- Understanding of material traceability and QA/QC processes
- Shop/warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment
- Frequent standing, walking, and lifting as required by tasks
- Use of PPE required (steel-toe boots, hard hat, gloves, etc.)
Pay: $17.20-$25.67 per hour
