Immediate | Open Position
Co‑op student will be immersed in the details and operations of plastic injection moulding in a manufacturing environment. The co‑op term will be split evenly over the 4 positions of Plastcoat’s Moulding Technical Team. Each stint will be either 1 month or 2 months depending on the co‑op time period (4 or 8 months).
- Stint 1 – Grinding: Introduction to the various types of polymers used; identifying types of polymers from the runner or raw pellets/regrind; separating out contaminants before grinding and why; entering metrics for the grinding area.
- Stint 2 – Material Handler: Introduction to the material handling equipment and operation; daily and regular maintenance of material handling equipment; participation in changeover activities, machine start‑up and shutdown procedures; performance of moisture analysis on material used in dryer; material mixing and why.
- Stint 3 – Set‑up Technician: Introduction to the function and operation of the injection moulding machine; main function of successfully and efficiently changing out one tool for the next as per schedule; learning about crane safety and usage; change of end‑of‑arm tooling (EOAT) and confirmation of set‑up of tool; downloading and confirmation of parameter program on the injection moulding machine.
- Stint 4 – Process Technician: Deeper understanding of operating an injection moulding machine; learning the different phases of injection moulding cycle; learning how to recognise and troubleshoot moulding defects; learning how to build an injection profile from scratch; performing all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations, promoting safety in the workplace;
compliance with the requirements of CTPAT/PIP; conduct business in an ethical manner in compliance with the Magna Code of Conduct; report all accidents/incidents and unsafe conditions/behaviour; adhere to applicable quality systems and IATF
16949 standards; adhere to and promote the Employee Charter and work within the rules, regulations and guidelines of the Plastcoat Employee Handbook; participate in and support Continuous Improvement initiatives; maintain work area in accordance with the principles of 5S and operate daily within these standards; ensure work area is kept neat and organized; perform other duties as required.
- Education: Minimum completion of Grade 12 diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in Post‑Secondary education in the Injection Molding Discipline.
- Experience: Holder of valid G2 or higher Driver’s License (an asset). Experience in lift truck operation, valid Fork Lift Operator License (an asset). Experience in crane operation and valid certificate (an asset). 1–2 years’ experience in moulding/manufacturing (an asset). Experience in automotive industry (an asset).
- Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills; computer literate in MS Word and spreadsheet programs; demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems; strong interpersonal skills; well‑developed organisational and time‑management skills.
