Requirements

Education:

Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience:

2 years to less than 3 years as a truck driver

Valid driver’s licence for commercial vehicles

Authorized to work in Canada (citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with a valid work permit)

Responsibilities

Plan or adjust routes using GPS and other navigation devices to minimise fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Arrange travel itineraries and make reservations.

Drive as part of a two‑person team or convoy, including lighter and special purpose trucks.

Load and unload goods; obtain special permits and required documents for international routes.

Operate straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.

Check vehicle condition; inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage, and other equipment.

Pay and receive payments for goods; record cargo, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption.

Perform brake adjustments, emergency roadside repairs, preventive maintenance, and pre‑trip, en‑route and post‑trip inspections.

Relay information to central dispatch; oversee all aspects of vehicle operations.

Tarp cargo and ensure safety and security; transport and handle dangerous goods.
