Day Shift Shipping and Receiving Clerk

Job Description

This role focuses on day-shift shipping and receiving activities in a large warehouse environment, supporting the movement of high-efficiency transformer units and power distribution products. You will receive, inspect, and record incoming materials, prepare and document outgoing shipments, and maintain accurate inventory records while operating material handling equipment and working closely with carriers and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming shipments and verify contents against packing slips, purchase orders, or invoices to ensure accuracy.
  • Inspect incoming materials for damage, accuracy, and quality, and report any discrepancies promptly.
  • Record receipts and shipments in inventory or ERP systems with precise and timely data entry.
  • Prepare outgoing shipments by picking, packing, labeling, and completing all required documentation.
  • Organize, label, and store products in designated warehouse locations to maintain orderly inventory flow.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, walkies, or reach trucks (where certified) in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate shipping and receiving logs and reports for internal tracking and auditing purposes.
  • Coordinate with carriers, drivers, and internal departments regarding shipments, scheduling, and discrepancies.
  • Process returns, damaged goods, and shipment discrepancies in a timely and organized manner.
  • Keep the shipping and receiving area clean, safe, and well organized, following all safety guidelines.
  • Work closely with the shipping and receiving lead to verify shipments and ensure accurate system updates.
  • Use inventory systems, ERP platforms, and shipping software to manage stock and track shipments.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to support smooth warehouse operations and meet project timelines.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2+ years of experience operating a counterbalance forklift with valid certification.
  • At least 2+ years of experience operating additional material handling equipment with valid certification (such as walkies or reach trucks, where applicable).
  • Previous shipping and/or receiving experience in a warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with material handling, including loading, unloading, and organizing products.
  • Ability to lift 40–50 lbs safely and consistently throughout the shift.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for the duration of the workday.
  • Experience using ERP systems and inventory management software to record and track shipments.
  • Proficiency in data entry and basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure accurate documentation and inventory control.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality to support consistent warehouse operations.
  • Valid forklift certification or license for operating powered industrial trucks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems for inventory and logistics management.
  • Background in inventory control and inventory management in a warehouse setting.
  • Experience as a shipper, receiver, material handler, or logistics associate.
  • Familiarity with shipping and receiving processes, including carrier coordination and documentation.
  • Comfort working with various shipping software and inventory systems.
  • Ability to adapt to changing shipment volumes and priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills when dealing with discrepancies, damaged goods, or returns.
