You will act as a key business partner to senior leaders across Construction, Engineering, and Operations—bringing rigor, structure, and insight to how and when capital is deployed, and ensuring investment decisions are supported by data, controls, and measurable returns.

This role can be performed from our office in Virden, MB or remotely.

General Responsibilities

  • Evaluate capital investment proposals and establish clear financial gates for capital deployment.
  • Develop and monitor payback periods and return metrics for capital projects.
  • Executive Decision Support & Financial Literacy
  • Deliver clear variance analysis and performance insights to improve financial literacy and decision-making at the executive level.
  • Translate operational results into financial outcomes, highlighting drivers, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Champion a performance-based culture through consistent, fact-based reporting.
  • Capital Controls & Governance
  • Design and enforce controls around when and how capital dollars are deployed.
  • Establish financial gating mechanisms tied to operational readiness, capacity, and return thresholds.
  • Operational KPIs & Performance Measurement
  • Define, track, and analyze key construction and deployment KPIs, including: meters drilled / plowed, drops completed, installations, cost per unit and capital efficiency metrics, payback periods and capital productivity.
  • Monitor trends and surface insights to optimize capital efficiency and execution.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Build, Design & Engineering, Field Services, the Project Management Office, and Finance to align capital plans with operational execution.
  • Improve the quality, consistency, and usefulness of construction and capital data across the organization.
  • Systems, Process & Capability Building
  • Improve capital planning processes and data flows, maximizing value from existing systems.
  • Develop training, tools, and frameworks to improve how leaders and teams use financial information to make decisions.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Professional accounting designation or bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
  • Management accounting skills.
  • Net Suite ERP & Vena software skills or equivalent.
  • Confidence in Excel, PowerPoint and MS applications.
  • 5+ years experience in a financial leadership role.
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience with data-driven decision making.
