Koch Fertilizer Canada, ULC is looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to join the team as an Operations Trainee to contribute to the organization’s value creation capabilities. This role offers a fast-paced working environment and opportunities for career development within our growing organization!

This position will work a 2 on, 2 off, 3 on schedule, switching between days and nights.

This position is not eligible for VISA Sponsorship.

Our Team

Based in Brandon, Manitoba, Koch Fertilizer Canada ULC’s (KFCU) operations have been producing agricultural fertilizer products since 1967. We synthesize and blend nitrogen, phosphate and sulfur products with ammonia, which we market primarily in the prairie provinces of Canada and the northern United States. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, we employ approximately 270 dedicated team members. In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, successful applicants will be hired into this position at (‘L Rate’ which is currently at $29.06). All overtime is paid at double time.

What You Will Do

  • Ensure all plants operate safely and efficiently to maximize production without environmental impact
  • Observe and record regular readings on daily log sheets and via a handheld data logging device
  • Maintain a daily log with details of daily duties, assignments and other work
  • Authorize safe work permits for plant maintenance activities
  • Submit product and water samples to lab for analysis of pH and other characteristics
  • Troubleshoot plant systems through regular inspections, loop isolations and maintenance identification
  • Inspect equipment and machinery and communicate precise requirements for issuing service requests for repairs
  • Participate in training as a member of the fire crew
  • Use some special equipment such as forklifts, scissor lift/JLG
  • Be able to effectively utilize time management to plan your day and be detailed orientated
  • Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience and the ability to analyze mechanical problems and devise solutions
  • Experience in troubleshooting mechanical issues and knowing how equipment and systems operate.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (ie. GED)
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Availability for shift work and emergency call out
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work at heights
  • Occasional exposure to fumes/airborne particles
  • Ability to pass pulmonary breathing test
  • Ability to wear a gas mask-type respirator and PPE
  • Tolerance to occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles and toxic/caustic chemicals with appropriate PPE
  • Unassisted physical mobility in and around plant and equipment
  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel as necessary
  • Ability to travel to and enter site to access equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds
  • What Will Put You Ahead

  • Power Engineering Certificate (4th class or higher), as power engineering is required in some production areas within defined timelines to attain as identified in the collective bargaining agreement
  • Three (3) or more months of operating and mechanical experience or related industrial experience
