Heritage Co-op is inviting applications for a

Front-End Supervisor

The Front End Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Front End Manager with the day-to-day leadership of front-end operations within the food store, ensuring a positive customer experience, accurate cash handling, and efficient workflow. This position supervises front-end team members, supports training and scheduling, responds to customer concerns, and helps maintain compliance with Co-op policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.

The Front End Supervisor contributes to store performance by promoting service excellence, maintaining front-end presentation and cleanliness, supporting asset protection practices, and coordinating effectively with other departments to ensure a seamless shopping experience for members and customers.

Key Job

Responsibilities include:
  • Supervise front-end team members, assign duties, monitor performance, and support training to ensure efficient checkout operations and strong customer service.
  • Oversee cashiering standards, cash handling, till balancing, refunds, voids, and related front-end controls to maintain accuracy and minimize loss.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, service issues, and escalated concerns in a prompt, professional manner while supporting a welcoming and member-focused store environment.
  • Prepare schedules, coordinate staffing levels, support store opening and closing routines, and collaborate with store leadership to maintain service levels and operational readiness.
  • Maintain front-end housekeeping, merchandising standards, promotional execution, and compliance with safety, policy, and loss prevention requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent is required.
  • Post-secondary coursework in business, retail operations, or customer service is an asset.
  • 2-3 years of progressively responsible retail experience, including cash handling and customer service responsibilities.
  • Previous experience leading, coaching, or scheduling staff in a grocery, food, or retail environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of point-of-sale systems, cash controls, and basic computer applications.
  • Current food handling, WHMIS, or other store-required safety training is an asset.
  • Must have full availability to do open/closing shifts on rotational basis, rotating weekends Saturday & Sunday are required.
  • Leadership & Team Development - to lead, mentor, and develop teams, including supervisory staff and department leaders. Managers must create a positive culture while driving accountability and performance.
  • Communication & Interpersonal ? to enable effective employee relations, vendor negotiations, community engagement, and customer interactions.
  • Analytical & Problem Solving - to address issues and analyze sales trends, manage financial performance, and make data?informed decisions related to pricing, merchandising, product selection, and staffing.
  • Organizational and Multitasking - to manage multiple departments, shifting priorities, and fast?paced operational changes.
