Position: Family Service Social Worker (Child Welfare)

Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba (CFSWM) is a community‑based, non‑profit organization dedicated to supporting the safety, well‑being, and resilience of children, youth, and families in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada and the surrounding rural area. We work collaboratively with families, caregivers, schools, health providers, and community partners to strengthen families and protect vulnerable children. Our team is committed to culturally responsive, inclusive, and trauma‑informed practice.

We are currently seeking Family Service Social Workers to join our Brandon and Rural teams. These frontline roles are essential to our child protection mandate and provide a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impact in the lives of children and families.

As a Family Service Social Worker
, you will provide protective, preventative, and supportive services to children and families. You will:

  • Conduct assessments, investigations, and risk evaluations related to child safety, neglect, abuse, and family functioning.
  • Develop case plans, safety plans, and intervention strategies in collaboration with families and caregivers.
  • Provide crisis intervention, counselling, and ongoing case management.
  • Support children in care (CIC), including placement coordination, care planning, and supervising family visits.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, and court materials; attend court proceedings as required.
  • Work closely with foster/resource families, kinship networks, and community agencies.
  • Maintain monthly documentation and complete required reviews in accordance with provincial standards.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and collaborative planning with multidisciplinary partners.
  • Brandon and Rural positions differ in travel expectations and vehicle provisions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) with current eligibility for registration with the Manitoba College of Social Workers (RSW) (professional membership dues are reimbursed by the Agency).
  • Related experience in the child welfare field is considered a definite asset, as well as knowledge of the Manitoba Child and Family Services Act .
  • Effective assessment, interviewing, relationship building, problem solving, organizational and advocacy skills.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed practices, child development, separation and attachment issues, and social issues impacting parenting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently without prompting.
  • Active Manitoba Class 5 (5F) Driver’s License, which is a condition of employment.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Successful completion of a Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Records Check (including vulnerable sector), Prior Contact Check, and a Driver’s Abstract Check is required. The successful candidate will be responsible for any services charges incurred for the Criminal Record Check; the Agency will pay for the other three security checks.
