The Yard Person – 6-Month Term
This is a temporary position supporting our operations during a busy seasonal period. This role helps keep the yard safe, organized, and running smoothly while supporting the Service, Parts, and Sales teams. The Yard Person prepares equipment, attachments, and accessories for delivery to customers, sales staff, and the service shop. The Yard Person must be comfortable and skilled in operating agricultural and heavy equipment to safely load, unload, move, and stage units from hauling trailers and around dealership property.
This position plays an important role in supporting busy seasonal periods and ensuring equipment is handled and transported safely.
- Equipment Handling & Yard Operations
- Safely operate agricultural and heavy equipment in the yard, shop, and delivery areas.
- Load, unload, stage, and secure equipment for customer pickups, deliveries, and vendor shipments.
- Transport equipment between locations, including operating pilot/escort vehicles when required.
- Ensure loads are secured according to transportation regulations and company procedures.
- Perform visual inspections and report damage, maintenance concerns, or safety hazards.
- Assist with equipment setup, including installing attachments, decals, and accessories.
- Maintain organized staging areas for equipment and attachments.
- Power wash, clean, detail, and prepare equipment before and after service or delivery.
- Assist with minor repairs, touch-up painting, and equipment preparation.
- Support cleaning and servicing of company vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain fuel levels, service tags, and workstation supplies.
- Receive equipment and verify shipments against purchase and inventory records.
- Prepare and maintain Bills of Lading and shipping documents.
- Assist with equipment inventory counts, tracking, and storage.
- Load and secure parts, accessories, and equipment for delivery or transport.
- Maintain yard and facility cleanliness, including snow removal and general housekeeping.
- Assist with general facility and operational duties as needed.
- Work independently and adjust priorities based on operational needs.
- Provide additional support during peak seasons, including spring preparation and fall harvest.
- Participate in cross-training to support Service, Parts, and Sales during busy periods.
- Assist with equipment movement and staging to support efficient workflow.
- Follow all company and customer safety policies and safe equipment operating practices.
- Comply with federal, provincial, and company load securement and transportation regulations.
- Participate in safety training, accident prevention, and hazard reporting.
- Experience operating agricultural, construction, or heavy equipment required.
- Ability to safely operate and maneuver equipment.
- Dealership, yard, farming, or equipment operating experience is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company insurability requirements.
- Experience with equipment transport, load securement and forklift operation.
- Strong safety awareness, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail.
- Good organizational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, adaptable, and able to manage priorities in a fast‑paced, seasonal environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and equipment operation.
- Outdoor yard and shop environment.
- Exposure to noise, dust, weather, and heavy equipment operations.
- Overtime and extended hours may be required during peak seasonal periods.
