Job Title: Traveling Mohs Technician
Position Type: Full Time

Job DescriptionTo maintain efficient Mohs lab(s) within Suncoast and uphold compliance with all federal and state regulatory entities and guidelines governing the operation of histopathology labs within a physician practice environment. Experienced Mohs Technicians needed – must be able to perform 10–15 cases per day and travel.
Role and Responsibilities Clinical & Administrative- Maintain par levels for all supplies required for the processing of tissue
- Ensure that all required maintenance of capital equipment used in the laboratory is performed according to industry and regulatory standards
- Submit reports to the Lab Director in a timely manner
- Maintain valid driver’s license for driving the Mohs van
- Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Lab Director
- Operate laboratory computer system to accession specimens and correctly affix labels to specimen containers and requisitions
- Prepare cassettes and slides for the corresponding patient specimens
- Prepare sections of human tissue for immediate microscopic examination and patient diagnosis, using frozen section technique to gross, ink, freeze, cut, mount and stain tissue specimen received from surgery
- Operate computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, preserving tissue specimens for study by a Pathologist
- Prepare slides using routine hematoxylin and eosin stain to enhance visibility under a microscope
- Examine slides under a microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets established laboratory requirements
- Process recuts and additional stains as requested by a Surgeon and/or Pathologist
- Prepare frozen tissue for permanent fixation and processing that will be embedded, sectioned, stained and labeled for an offsite pathologist
- Perform daily Quality Control and Quality Assurance tests as required, maintain documentation and logs, and troubleshoot any problems
- Maintain laboratory equipment and track all routine maintenance performed
- File slides, reports and laboratory results and retrieve blocks, slides and requisitions in accordance with State and Federal guidelines
- Monitor inventory, requisition supplies prior to depletion, stock and maintain laboratory supplies
- Operate, clean, and sterilize laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments; maintain a clean workstation
- Assist Laboratory Manager in preparation for regulatory agency inspections
- Operate frozen van safely and courteously while providing secure transportation of specimens, supplies, equipment and pathology reports
- Obey traffic laws
- Maintain frozen van in top working condition (check oil level on generator, restock supplies, clean countertops with disinfecting wipes, clean stainer containers bi‑weekly in 10% bleach, defrost and oil cryostat monthly, sweep out truck daily, replace counter liners as needed)

High school diploma, AS degree or higher preferred. Knowledgeable in computer programs, EMR systems, customer service, excellent verbal communication skills. Mohs tech/Histotech experience preferred.
