Summary

The Therapist, Staff Occupational, will support the education of students suspected of and/or diagnosed with disability in their least restrictive environment. The Therapist, Staff Occupational, will develop, implement, and coordinate an occupational therapy program providing observations, evaluations, and intervention services. The Therapist, Staff Occupational, is expected to analyze risk, problem solve effectively, and demonstrate a high level of professional judgment when recommending and providing services, making environmental modifications, and training staff to manage occupational needs at an appropriate level of supervision.

The Therapist, Staff Occupational, through working as a team member serving students with disabilities, is autonomous in applying principles of occupational therapy and responsible for working within the Florida Occupational Therapy Practice Act, FERPA and other legal mandates.

Responsibilities
  • Completes assessments and designs and implements occupational therapy services in accordance with the Occupational Therapy Practice Act, Chapter 468,

    F. S., and under the regulations of the IDEA.
  • Adheres to professional, ethical, and legal standards of practice.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of effective practice, clinical decision-making, outcomes-based intervention, and their proper application in the educational environment, as well as knowledge of areas of practice specific to pediatrics, including child development and specific diagnoses.
  • Participates with the school team to develop Individual Educational Plans (IEP) and Section 504 Plans.
  • Supervises and monitors occupational therapy assistant, as required.
  • Applies evidence-based research and best practices to design and implement therapeutic interventions for improving student outcomes identified on the IEP.
  • Documents all therapy services, including daily documentation, progress notes, and Medicaid billing.
  • Collaborates with school personnel and demonstrates knowledge of the educational environment to promote safe and accessible schools.
  • Provides consultation to school personnel regarding emergency evacuation of students with disabilities.
  • Provides clinical educational opportunities for students of occupational therapy.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and tasks outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the district.
Qualifications
  • Active and in good standing Occupational Therapy License issued by the Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance.
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in areas specific to pediatrics preferred.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Speaks, reads, and writes English fluently; reads, analyzes, and interprets documents; communicates effectively with school personnel, families and district staff.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure; computes rate, ratio, and percent; interprets graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Analyzes risk, problem solves effectively, and demonstrates professional judgment when recommending and providing services, making environmental modifications, and training staff to manage occupational needs at an appropriate level of supervision.
  • Computer

    Skills:

    Microsoft Office.
