Position: Maintenance Technician, Full Time, at Nativity Catholic Church in Brandon, FL

Nativity Catholic Church and School in Brandon, Florida, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our facilities team. We are looking for a person who is well-versed in all aspects of repair and maintenance including mechanical. electrical, and plumbing. This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefits eligible position.

Parish Description

Nativity Parish is a thriving, vibrant community of approximately 4,500 families, and 600 PK3-8th grade students. We are a multi-cultural parish comprised of 65% English speaking, 25% Spanish speaking, and 10% Indian, Filipino, African American, and other ethnicities. We have 70+ lay ministries, a vibrant pastoral care ministry, and a flourishing food bank and food pantry.

Primary Objective

The primary objective of this position is to perform moderate to complex repair and maintenance work for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance problems that includes troubleshooting to identify the problem and creating the solution.

Primary Duties
  • Receives requests for service maintenance, prioritizes work orders, and handles each I the most efficient manner.
  • Performs minor to moderate-level plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and other general repair work.
  • Perform painting projects ranging from full interior painting to minor touch up and repair of walls and woodwork.
  • General, daily cleaning maintenance of all facilities and equipment including safe cleaning protocols for classroom mishaps.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to keep the facility operations running smoothly and efficiently.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Fluent in the English language. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • 2-4 years of experience in commercial facility maintenance preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General knowledge of the repair and maintenance of appliances, lighting fixtures, and plumbing
  • Knowledge and skills to operate common and specialized tools for repairs and maintenance
  • Ability to visually inspect units, grounds, and other aspects of the property to determine adherence to standards
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, and in writing
  • Knowledge and skills to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply written instructions for repair and maintenance of equipment
  • Basic computer/technical skills to operate mobile computing or communications devices
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, bend, walk use hands and fingers to control objects, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs and ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The associate must be able to lift 50 pounds individually and up to 100 pounds with assistance devices (dollies, hand trucks, additional persons).
  • Must be able to see and read to complete forms, read reports, and visually determine the correct working order of physical aspect of units and other property facilities. Frequently needs to see small details.
    While performing the duties of this job the associate primarily works in an outdoor environment exposed to adverse weather conditions as well as dirt and/or dust.

Compensation

Pay: $19.00-$23.00 per hour plus comprehensive benefits and diocesan retirement plan.

Candidate must successfully complete a Level II FBI background screening and attend Safe Environment Training.
