About the PositionThe Emergency Management Officer I will support disaster housing planning and recovery efforts.
Responsibilities- Develop, maintain, and update state disaster housing plans and related documents.
- Validate office plans and maintain records of participation.
- Develop and deliver briefings, workshops, and training for state and local partners.
- Design and implement disaster housing exercises, workshops, and other training activities.
- Incorporate exercise findings to update disaster housing plans.
- Facilitate State‑Led Disaster Housing Task Force meetings for both declared and non‑declared disasters, coordinating stakeholder participation, developing meeting materials, and setting objectives.
- Serve as a planning liaison with local, state, federal, and private sector housing providers.
- Conduct housing research on available commercial parks, rentals, and specialized housing needs.
- Maintain a list of housing stakeholders who can assist during a disaster.
- Participate in internal and external training, workshops, courses, and conferences.
- Support Individual Assistance and Disability Integration duties, including damage validations and joint preliminary damage assessments within federal and state resource centers.
- Maintain communication and build rapport with disaster survivors for problem‑solving and resource coordination.
- Maintain situational awareness of housing trends and best practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
- During activation, serve in the Disaster Call Center, coordinate with Mass Care and MSVOAD, develop planning‑related products (maps, resource lists, housing summaries), support the FEMA Direct Housing group, track clients during non‑congregate shelter missions, assist with temporary disaster housing coordination, and participate in virtual and in‑person disaster housing meetings.
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 0–2 years of experience in emergency management or disaster housing planning.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, research, public speaking, coordination, and written communication.
- Ability to develop and present PowerPoint presentations.
- Experience in developing, validating, and implementing plans.
- Strong organizational and situational‑awareness skills.
