Automotive Painter - 23 to 28 an hour - BENEFITS DAY 1

Job Description

The Automotive Painter prepares, finishes, and refinishes vehicle exteriors to a high-quality standard. This role focuses on sanding, priming, painting, and buffing painted surfaces, while ensuring all work meets quality, safety, and environmental requirements. You will work with a variety of tools and materials in an industrial paint booth environment and collaborate closely with a team to deliver consistent, professional results on every vehicle.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare vehicles for painting by sanding, buffing, and performing detailed paint prep on exterior panels.
  • Tape and mask off non-painted surfaces or parts around areas to be painted to protect them from overspray.
  • Seal body seams with epoxy seam sealer and smooth them properly to ensure a clean and uniform final paint finish.
  • Grind and fill welds, dents, and gouges in exterior panels with properly mixed body filler, then sand to a smooth, finished surface.
  • Sand and shape body filler around transitions and body lines to maintain the vehicles original contours and design.
  • Spray primer on all areas where body filler was applied to prepare surfaces for final paint application.
  • Wipe down all areas to be painted with grease and wax remover to ensure proper adhesion and a clean finish.
  • Sand down painted surfaces to remove orange peel texture and other imperfections prior to final finishing.
  • Operate a buffer and follow the required steps to buff paint to a proper, high-quality finish.
  • Use spray guns, paint sprayers, and related equipment to apply automotive paint and industrial coatings in a paint booth.
  • Mix primers and other paint products according to specifications and quality standards once trained.
  • Follow OSHA and EPA standards and internal quality requirements to produce an acceptable finish paint on all vehicles.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment, communicating professionally and following directions from supervisors and team leads.
  • Climb onto vehicles when necessary to access work areas and wear required fall protection and other safety equipment.
  • Perform tasks within established time standards while maintaining consistent quality and meeting production goals.
Essential Skills
  • Preferred 1-year experience in automotive paint preparation and body repair.
  • Preferred high school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to run dual action sanders, grinders, and miscellaneous hand tools used in auto body and industrial painting work.
  • Full knowledge of quality requirements needed to produce an acceptable finish paint on vehicles.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and follow written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and support collaborative workflows.
  • Ability to learn how to mix primers and other paint products and apply them correctly.
  • Ability to perform tasks within defined time standards while maintaining quality standards.
  • General knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards related to industrial painting and automotive refinishing.
  • Capability to climb on vehicles and use required fall protection when working at height.
  • Competence in sanding, priming, buffing, and polishing painted surfaces to a professional finish.
  • Experience using spray guns, paint sprayers, and working in a paint booth environment.
