ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SECRETARY
Full-time (35 Hours Per Week) - 10 Month Position

The Elementary School Secretary works under the general direction of the School Principal and is responsible for performing required clerical duties. In addition to these duties, the Elementary School Secretary prepares various reports for the Board, maintains student records and contributes to the efficient functioning of the school and the welfare of the students.
Qualifications- Successful completion of one-year post-secondary secretarial studies program plus a minimum of two years of related job experience, or equivalent;
- Good working knowledge of a computerized environment utilizing word processing, spread sheets, student information system, accounting, desktop publishing, internet, and e-mail, as well as scanners and other office equipment;
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced elementary school environment with good time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks;
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to function effectively with staff, students, parents, members of the public and others;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent telephone manners;
- Ability to deal with students in a calm, compassionate and professional manner;
- Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information; and
- Familiar with Board policies and procedures related to elementary schools.
- Serve as secretary to the Principal and Vice-Principal, performing all secretarial duties including preparation of correspondence, reports and school newsletters, maintenance of files and other day-to-day activities;
- Organize and provide secretarial services to the school under the direction of the Principal, including answering the telephone and directing calls, greeting visitors, placing phone calls and distributing in-coming correspondence, faxes, and e-mails;
- Assist in the maintenance of school records/activities including maintenance of enrolment records, OSR's, family records, daily attendance, school/staff schedules, class/school trips, personnel and payroll reports, accounting information, accurate banking records, statistical records/reports, petty cash and fundraising cash;
- Assist and support activities dealing with students, parents and/or general public;
- Prepare purchase orders for school/office supplies and tender orders for school supplies; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal.

Preference is given to individuals in the Casual Secretary pool for all permanent Clerical positions.
