Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is a unique Indigenous Institute, recognized by community, government, and institutions of higher learning, as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge. At the SNPSS, students earn a high school diploma, an industry-recognized college diploma, and gain relevant work experience in their field of study. The school creates a seamless program for students to acquire the academic, technical, and workplace skills and knowledge that employers need.

Function & Overview

Reporting to the Principal - SNPSS, the Supply Teacher accepts assignments within the school that could last one day to several days. The Supply Teacher is essential to ensure learning continues in the classrooms when staff are absent. The Supply Teacher is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community;

contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).

Duties

The duties of the Supply Teacher include, without limitation:

  • Planning, Organizing & Developing Instruction
  • Utilizing differentiated teaching methods, instructional materials and assessment to meet students' varying needs and interests;
  • Implementing Assessment & Classroom Management
  • Assisting in the evaluation and assessment of student needs;
  • Assisting in the implementation of a prescribed program in both individual and group settings;
  • Cooperating with the Principal and SNPSS staff to establish and maintain consistent disciplinary practices in the school, with respect to our school code of conduct and restorative justice procedures;
  • Supervisory & Safety Duties
  • Carrying out the supervisory duties assigned to the Teacher by the Principal, including in class, extracurricular, break or lunchtime supervisions and out of class excursions;
  • Being present in the classroom or teaching area and ensuring that the classroom or teaching area is ready for the reception of pupils at least fifteen minutes before the commencement of classes in the school in the morning and, where applicable, five minutes before the commencement of classes in the school in the afternoon;
  • Ensuring that all reasonable safety procedures are carried out in courses and activities for which the Teacher is responsible, including but not limited to all fire safety procedures, lockdown procedures, shop and machinery safety procedures, kitchen safety protocols, and all other content specific safety procedures;
  • Community Connections
  • Using technology, hands-on activities and Hodinǫshǫ:nih history, culture, values, contemporary issues, community priorities, and resources to enrich curriculum and instruction;
  • General Administration
  • Maintaining accurate and complete student attendance records as required by the Ministry of Education and SNPSS administrative guidelines; and
  • Other related duties, as required.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Bachelor of Education degree;
  • OCT (Ontario Teaching Certification) in good standing; and
  • Have experience using D2L and Microsoft TEAMS.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of current research and instructional best practices;
  • Strong leadership skills;
  • A general and current knowledge of Hodinǫshǫ:nih history, culture, values, contemporary issues, community priorities, and stakeholders;
  • Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on written expression (i.e., faultless spelling and grammar, and professional style);
  • Sound interpersonal skills including communication, organization, negotiation, and professional judgement;
