Our Mechanical Engineers are responsible for design of highly complex opto‑mechanical and electromechanical components from concept straight through to production. Experienced engineers are expected to apply advanced engineering knowledge to tackle complex assignments, contribute to best practices and lead projects.
Primary Responsibilities- Responsible for mechanical design and analysis of complex opto‑mechanical and electromechanical products from concept through to production using modern CAD and analysis tools.
- Perform innovation and/or suggest ways to improve our systems and/or reduce cost.
- Work on complex engineering assignments requiring specialized knowledge, modifying methods and devising new approaches.
- Major technical contributor or lead to the completion of project goals.
- Contribute to the definition of departmental best practices and design approaches.
- Provide technical or project related guidance and direction to other staff; may act as a lead on larger projects or mentor staff.
- Participate in design reviews as presenter or reviewer.
- Support verification and validation of new product designs.
- Keep in synchronization with mechanical industry trends and new technologies relevant to L3 WESCAM’s future product development.
- Proficient in FEA for static and dynamics analysis (preferably ANSYS).
- Proficient in CFD analysis package (preferably ANSYS).
- Advanced knowledge of a 3D CAD system (preferably Solid Works).
- Experience with MATLAB or equivalent.
- Extensive knowledge of drawing standards and mechanical design standard practice.
- Well‑versed in mechanical dynamics and vibration.
- Well‑versed in strength of materials and classical analysis methods.
- Well‑versed in opto‑mechanical design principles.
- Well‑versed in machining, casting, sheet metal, and composites manufacturing techniques.
- Well‑versed in rapid prototyping techniques.
- Well‑versed in Materials Science.
- Technical leadership skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to prepare detailed technical reports and specifications.
- Highly motivated, self‑starter.
- Ability to learn and grow within a fast‑paced environment.
- Meets the requirements of the Controlled Goods Registration Program and is eligible for a Canadian government security clearance.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of relevant experience (ideally 8 years of Mechanical Systems Engineering).
- Graduate Degree and minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
