Position Summary:
Adult School Crossing Guards play an important role in keeping children safe on their way to and from school by assisting them across busy roadways during the school year. The ideal candidates for this position are responsible, community-minded individuals, who are committed to providing excellent customer service and are passionate about promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace. The City of Brantford will provide newly hired Crossing Guards with the training and equipment needed to perform the job.
Reporting to the Supervisor of Community Safety Initiatives under the Bylaw and Security Department, your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring traffic flow to identify safe breaks in traffic to allow for the safe crossing of students and pedestrians;
- Communicating clearly and effectively using spoken commands, a handheld sign, a whistle, and hand signals;
- Being a role model in helping children develop the skills necessary to cross the streets safely at all times;
- Documenting and reporting incidents to supervisor(s);
- Adhering to the provisions of the Provincial Highway Traffic Act and City policies.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work both mornings before school, and afternoons after school, Monday through Friday during the school year.
- Ability to work outside through all weather conditions.
- Applicants must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position, as assessed through a medical examination by a Physician.
- Access to reliable transportation is required as work hours may be outside of public transportation operations.
- Strong customer service skills and a passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe community.
- General knowledge of automobile use, habits, traffic, and rules/regulations.
- A valid "G2" Ontario driver's license in good standing is required and access to a properly insured personal vehicle.
- Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
WAGE/SALARY RANGE: $21.12 to $24.85 per hour
