Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Health & Safety (H&S) Specialist
About the role:

Massilly is seeking a hands-on Health & Safety (H&S) Specialist to champion our safety initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous program improvement across our manufacturing facilities. This is an active, shop‑floor‑focused role: you will spend significant time directly on the production floor working alongside plant leadership, machine operators, maintenance personnel, and production supervisors to establish safety standards, deliver practical training, and eliminate hazards in real time.

If you bring deep regulatory expertise, practical manufacturing experience, and a proactive approach to safety culture, we’d love to connect!

What You’ll Do
  • Spend consistent time on the active manufacturing floor conducting walk‑throughs, observing production processes, and engaging directly with operators to drive Massilly’s proactive safety culture.

  • Oversee hazard assessment processes, including Risk Assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), machine safeguarding audits, and physical lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) verification on the line.

  • Support thorough incident, near‑miss, and hazard investigations on the shop floor, conducting practical root‑cause analyses and tracking corrective actions directly with production leadership.

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of our health and safety management software system.

  • Assist the Health & Safety Lead in developing and executing corporate safety strategies, business plans, and special projects.

  • Serve as a key advisor to the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), facilitating monthly meetings, conducting joint inspections, and supporting member initiatives on the plant floor.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain core H&S programs (e.g., WHMIS, Contractor Management, Safe Observations, Chemical Handling).

  • Lead and coordinate the facility’s Industrial Hygiene (e.g., noise monitoring, dust control) and Emergency Response Planning programs.

  • Manage safety audit and physical inspection processes across all manufacturing cells and plant areas to ensure continuous regulatory compliance and improvement.

  • Conduct practical H&S orientations and required safety training for new employees, temporary workers, and contractors, ensuring safety practices translate directly to line operations.

  • Create and distribute shop‑floor safety resources, monthly performance reports, and practical weekly/monthly safety talks tailored to manufacturing teams.

  • Organize PPE programs, including deployment, proper fit testing (e.g., respiratory fit testing, hearing protection), equipment maintenance, and hands‑on usage training.

  • Manage WSIB claims and lead the safe Return‑to‑Work (RTW) process, collaborating with supervisors to identify suitable modified duties on the shop floor.

  • Track and analyze trends within the Safe Observation program to address operational risks proactively.

What you’ll bring to the role:
  • 3+ years of direct, on‑the‑floor Health & Safety experience within a fast‑paced manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Post‑secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or a related discipline preferred.

  • Experience developing processes and procedures, workflows and SOP’s.

  • Solid understanding of Ontario health and safety legislation (OHSA), industrial regulations, machine safety, and applicable CSA standards.

  • Hands‑on experience with WSIB reporting, claims management, and developing practical Return‑to‑Work (RTW) protocols in a production setting.

  • Strong proficiency in conducting physical risk assessments, machine hazard assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and plant safety auditing.

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills, with proven success facilitating hands‑on safety training and communicating effectively…
