Position: Chemist, Analytical QC (Contract Role)

The Chemist Analytical QC QS4 carries out work related to quality control, stability, method transfer, validation, and standard studies according to Standard Operating Procedure. This position is open for rotational shift.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and demonstrate a basic understanding of test methods, SOPs, compendia, and Certificates of Analysis.
  • Properly label, inspect, and sample finished products, intermediates, raw materials, and recovered materials to ensure conformity with established standards.
  • Test raw materials, intermediates, finished products, R&D samples, and environmental samples; perform physical testing of assigned packaging components and physical and chemical testing of any samples per test methods/SOPs/compendia and Certificates of Analysis.
  • Make routine decisions around simple task priorities while strictly following SOPs; seek input from higher-level team members in non-routine matters.
  • Report all testing results and deviations encountered during testing.
  • Utilize basic analytical knowledge and experience to carry out assigned investigation activities.
  • Document analytical data accurately and comprehensively; self-review data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain records of retained, stability, and standard samples and ensure proper storage.
  • Release finished products, intermediates, raw materials, and recovered materials upon approval of results by department management.
  • Report problems related to instruments, methods, etc., to the supervisor or manager promptly.
  • Keep the workplace clean, tidy, and safe.
  • Identify the need for chemicals, gases, standards, glassware, and other accessories.
  • Calibrate laboratory equipment according to the department’s calibration program.
  • Liaise with higher-level laboratory personnel to learn the use of all applicable physical and chemical testing equipment and to acquire a fundamental understanding of departmental and regulatory practices; may liaise with other employees in departments across the organization.
  • Demonstrate personal leadership attributes, commit to ongoing professional development and continuous learning, and seek performance inputs from peers, senior team members, and supervisors to identify performance gaps.

Education
  • Minimum

    B.Sc. in Chemistry or equivalent area of study.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Familiar with cGMP.
  • Familiar with USP, BP, EP, and ECH guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledge of operating and troubleshooting instruments such as GC, HPLC, UV, IR.
  • Knowledge of wet analytical chemical techniques.
  • Ability to follow SOPs.
  • Follow safety fundamentals of a laboratory.
  • Documentation is neat and concise.
  • Participate in shift rotation and/or on-call.
  • Knowledge of Windows, MS Office, Chemstore/Chemstation, or suitable software.
Experience
  • Preferable 1–2 years of experience in the related field of chemistry.
Salary and Benefits

The hiring range for this position is $42,425 – $56,567 CAD per year. The final agreed-upon salary may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
