Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for a Full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in Biostatistics at the EPID@Work Research Institute.

The Postdoctoral Fellow in Biostatistics will provide advanced statistical support across a diverse portfolio of workplace health research projects. Working closely with researchers, trainees, and community partners, the successful candidate will contribute to study design, data analysis, grant development, scientific publications, and knowledge translation activities.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for recent PhD graduates in Biostatistics to build an independent program of research within a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and well-funded research environment. Opportunities to apply for independent funding will be available and encouraged.

This is a full-time position supported by ongoing Institute grant funding. The initial term of this position will be until March 31, 2027, with funding currently confirmed for up to three years. The position offers an opportunity for long-term growth and career advancement, including potential progression within the Institute's scientific career pathway based on performance, qualifications, and achievements.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day to day technical and operational statistical leadership to project teams within the Institute.
  • Provide statistical oversight on research projects, ensuring sound statistical methodologies in study design, sample size estimation, statistical analysis planning, statistical modeling, data handling, analysis and reporting.
  • Coach, mentor, develop, and provide technical review, advice and expertise to less experienced analysts and students.
  • Provide statistical input in protocol design and development. Participate in the writing of protocols and research proposals.
  • Write statistical analysis plans, statistical reports, and statistical methodology sections of reports and manuscripts. Perform peer review of others’ statistical analysis plans and other technical statistical documents.
  • Perform hands on statistical analysis and modeling, maintaining expertise in state-of-the-art statistical methodologies.
  • Validate core statistical tables, listings, and figures programed by statistical analysts or research associates/assistants, ensuring that results are complete and accurate. Perform overall quality control on statistical deliverables before release.
  • Review and confirm dataset specifications for sharing of data.
  • Provide statistical consultation to research personnel (staff and students) for the publication of study results, and participate in the writing of abstracts, manuscripts, posters, and presentations.
  • Contribute to organization development and growth by participating in the interview and evaluation process for professional applicants.
Qualifications
  • Passionate about Occupational Health and Safety
  • A Ph.D. degree in biostatistics, statistical sciences, mathematical analysis or related fields (preferred)
  • Current knowledge of and experience with research design, research methodologies, data analysis, and risk assessments.
  • Evidence of experience in preparation and publication of manuscripts, including at least two first author publications (accepted or in press); excellent scientific writing and strong oral communications skills.
  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results.
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change.
  • Models and promotes core ethical practice and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude.
