Job Purpose / Summary

The Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) – API Integrations will play a key role in ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of ABC Fitness Solutions’ API ecosystem, including Glofox, Ignite, Trainerize, Commerce, and Gymsales. This role focuses on understanding customer and partner usage of ABC API products and developing, maintaining, and enhancing automated test suites, as well as creating tools and dashboards to monitor API health and performance.

The SDET will collaborate closely with API Integration Engineers, Software Development teams, and SRE/Platform Operations teams to ensure high quality, reliability, and availability across ABC’s global API services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for validating the functionality, reliability, and performance of ABC’s API products.
  • Create comprehensive test cases to cover RESTful API endpoints, data validation, authentication mechanisms, and integration workflows.
  • Implement continuous testing solutions to be integrated with CI/CD pipelines to ensure quality at every stage of development.
  • Collaborate with development and product teams to define test strategies and establish quality benchmarks for new API features.
  • Build and maintain dashboards using tools such as Grafana, or similar platforms to monitor API health, uptime, and key performance metrics.
  • Develop scripts to analyze system logs and metrics to identify issues, anomalies, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Review logs and traces across distributed systems to research failures, errors, or latency spikes impacting API performance.
  • Partner with engineering and operations teams to implement proactive monitoring and alerting systems for production APIs.
  • Drive automation best practices and ensure high levels of test coverage for all API integrations.
  • Contribute to post-release validation, regression testing, and continuous improvement of testing frameworks.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 5–8 years of experience as an SDET, QA Automation Engineer, or Software Engineer focused on API testing.
  • Demonstrated fluency in English and strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with international teams in engineering, product, and operations.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills, with experience troubleshooting distributed systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with automated testing tools and frameworks (Postman, Newman, Rest Assured, Cypress, or similar).
  • Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java for building automation frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful API principles, authentication schemes (OAuth 2.0, JWT, API Keys), and API lifecycle management.
  • Experience creating and managing dashboards with Grafana or similar tools for monitoring service health and performance.
  • Familiarity with logging and monitoring tools (e.g., ELK stack, App Dynamics, Honeycomb) for analyzing application logs and metrics.
  • Experience integrating automated testing frameworks with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Git Hub Actions.
  • Familiarity with API management platforms like Gravitee is a plus.
