At UC Irvine's Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and Department of Ophthalmology, our faculty of internationally recognized physicians, surgeons and scientists provide highly specialized training to future ophthalmologists, access to leading-edge clinical trials as well as sight-saving treatments and therapies for virtually any eye disorder.

Eye surgeons, stem cell researchers, geneticists, infectious disease specialists and engineers are working on technologies and treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, corneal disease and cataracts as well as a vaccine to prevent eye and genital herpes infections. These efforts have vaulted UC Irvine School of Medicine into the top echelons of U.S. institutions receiving National Institutes of Health grants for vision research.

Involves collaborative care with the Cornea Service in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of primary anterior segment diseases. Responsibilities include evaluating, diagnosing, and managing diseases, injuries, and disorders of the eye and associated structures, as well as recognizing systemic conditions that may affect ocular health. Specifically, performs comprehensive eye examinations and screening assessments to evaluate visual function, identify ocular abnormalities, and assess anterior segment conditions.

Diagnoses ocular conditions and prescribes appropriate treatment to preserve or restore vision. Obtains, analyzes, and documents relevant clinical history and examination findings. May provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff members. Provides patient education regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and chronic management of anterior segment conditions, including cataract and dry eye disease.

This position is located at UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute - Brea (380 W Central Ave, Suite 400, Brea, CA 92821) and is a 50% appointment.

Required:

• Thorough knowledge of optometry and skills essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position.
• Thorough knowledge of eye diseases diagnosis.
• Must be able to effectively communicate findings of examination to patients.
• Requires strong communication and presentation skills.

• Position must be able to provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff members.

• Thorough professional skills in delivering eye care, treatment, and diagnostic services to patients.
• Doctoral degree in optometry issued by an accredited school / college of optometry.
• Licensure by the California State Board of Optometry.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience.
