Talented Music Teacher
Salary schedule attached and based on certification status and experience. Salary will be prorated for remaining days left on contract.
Position PurposeThe Talented Music Teacher develops students’ interest, abilities, talents, and skills for musical expression and performance. The teacher fosters musical understanding, appreciation, and creativity by implementing district‑approved curriculum; planning and delivering effective instruction; documenting teaching and student progress; modeling musical techniques; providing a safe and supportive learning environment; and communicating student progress, expectations, and goals to students, parents, and administration.
Essential Functions- Develops Individual Education Plans (IEPs), as required, that address each student’s unique musical talents, interests, and needs, in collaboration with Pupil Appraisal staff.
- Plans, prepares, and implements engaging lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with district curriculum and adopted courses of study.
- Provides instruction in music, including but not limited to vocal and/or instrumental performance, music theory, rhythm, melody, harmony, sight‑reading, listening skills, composition, and music history.
- Teaches musical concepts and appreciation, enabling students to make informed qualitative judgments about music and musical performances.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student musical skills and learning; adjusts instructional strategies to meet individual learning needs, including those of students with disabilities.
- Demonstrates musical techniques through singing, playing instruments, conducting, and modeling appropriate performance practices using standard and teacher‑prepared instructional aids.
- Organizes instructional time to ensure a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, rehearsal, guided practice, and performance.
- Instructs students in the proper care, handling, and safe use of musical instruments, equipment, and technology.
- Evaluates student performance and growth; maintains accurate records; and prepares progress reports in accordance with district procedures and applicable laws.
- Plans and presents concerts, performances, and musical showcases to highlight student achievement for the school and community; may coordinate or sponsor performances involving outside groups.
- Maintains accurate and complete records for grading, attendance, and reporting in compliance with federal, state, and district requirements.
- Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with students and families.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior consistent with school and district policies to support a productive learning environment.
- Collaborates with school staff, participates in faculty meetings and committees, and coordinates with grade‑level and content‑area colleagues.
- Selects, requisitions, and manages music supplies, instruments, instructional materials, and equipment; maintains inventory records.
- Engages in ongoing professional learning through workshops, seminars, professional meetings, or research to remain current in the field of music education.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal or central office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent.
- Completes all required documentation and paperwork by established deadlines in accordance with federal, state, and local policies.
- Standard office equipment (computer, printer, copier, fax machine, telephone).
- Musical instruments, sound equipment, instructional technology, and related materials.
- Travels to school district sites and professional meetings as required.
- This position is typically itinerant and may require service delivery at multiple schools.
- Follows the standard teacher work schedule for the St. Martin Parish School District.
- Demonstrated music portfolio or performance background meeting requirements for an ancillary music certificate as established by the Louisiana Department of Education.
