Job SummaryThis position works under direct on‑premises supervision of a licensed physical or occupational therapist. The role provides therapeutic modality treatments as assigned, prepares therapy areas and patients for treatments, and transports patients by use of wheelchairs and stretchers. The job performs isolation techniques as outlined in the Infection Control policy.
Education- Required – High School diploma or equivalent
- Preferred – Some college coursework in Healthcare Sciences
- Required – None
- Preferred – 5 years relevant experience or pursuing education in a clinical program
- Required – Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information.
- Proficient with Windows‑style applications, keyboard, and various software packages specific to the role.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
- Prepare and maintain work area for treatment including ordering of supplies/linen and pharmaceuticals.
- Orient and mentor new staff in needs of assigned area.
- Monitor and assist in patient‑care as specifically instructed by the therapist according to their competencies.
- Assist with generalized office and front desk procedures.
- Transport patients to and from department or room via wheelchair or stretcher as directed by professional staff in a safe and courteous manner.
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
- Other related duties as required.
Frequently exert 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects; occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
The incumbent works in a patient care area; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste in the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
