The Music & Performing Arts Teacher provides dynamic, student-centered instruction across a range of performing arts courses, including Choir ,
Music Production , and Theater Technology . This position empowers students to explore creative expression, develop technical and artistic skills, and engage in authentic performance- and production-based learning. The ideal candidate fosters an inclusive environment where students of varying abilities can discover their voice, build confidence, and collaborate as artists, musicians, technicians, and performers.
The teacher collaborates with colleagues, families, and community partners to support a vibrant, well-rounded performing arts program that reflects Summit High School’s mission and commitment to student engagement, belonging, and readiness for life beyond graduation.
Instructional Responsibilities- Provide high-quality instruction in Choir, Music Production, and Theater Technology aligned to Colorado Academic Standards and district expectations.
- Design engaging lessons that cultivate musicianship, creativity, technical proficiency, and performance literacy.
- Develop clear learning targets, success criteria, and assessment practices that support student growth across artistic, technical, and collaborative competencies.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including students with varying levels of musical and technical background.
- Create a classroom culture that promotes teamwork, artistic risk-taking, and respect for the creative process.
- Direct and rehearse vocal ensembles, preparing students for concerts, festivals, and school/community performances.
- Coordinate and oversee technical elements for theatrical productions, including lighting, sound, stagecraft, and backstage operations.
Facilitate student work in digital audio production, recording, editing, and music technology platforms. - Collaborate with performing arts colleagues to plan performances, manage shared spaces, and oversee equipment and inventory.
- Maintain a safe and organized environment in rehearsal, performance, production, and technical work spaces.
- Provide mentorship that encourages students to explore artistic pathways and develop confidence as performers, producers, and technicians.
- Communicate regularly with, families, and colleagues regarding expectations, schedules, and performance commitments.
- Support extracurricular performing arts activities and participate in performances, events, and festivals as needed.
- Build partnerships with local arts organizations, community musicians, theaters, and industry partners to enhance student learning and real-world exposure.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning to stay current in music education, audio production, and technical theater practices.
- Maintain accurate records, communicate student progress, and meet all reporting deadlines.
- Uphold school and district policies related to safety, supervision, and student conduct.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Principal that support the mission of the school and success of the performing arts programs.
- Valid Colorado Teaching License with appropriate endorsement (or ability to obtain).
- Strong background in choral music, vocal pedagogy, and ensemble direction.
- Experience in digital audio workstations (e.g., Logic, Garage Band, Ableton, Pro Tools) and music production concepts.
- Familiarity with theater technology systems including lighting, sound, stagecraft, and backstage operations.
- Demonstrated ability to build inclusive, positive, and collaborative learning environments.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
