Job Description:

Primary Responsibility

Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, the Academic Advisor II and Access Coordinator position encompasses a combination of student services that includes academic advising, disability services functions, and other elements of student support and advocacy. The array of duties will revolve with the rhythm of the academic year.

As Academic Advisor II, the incumbent, utilizing exceptional interpersonal skills and in‑depth knowledge of the college catalog, provides student advising and coordinates various tasks in support of the following campus student services. Provides administrative counseling and guidance in interpreting the College’s academic policies and guidelines. Delivers academic, career and transfer advising, and registration and financial aid assistance, and general guidance for students.

Guides students with problem‑solving and goal identification; analyzes situations and determines required actions. Leads retention and recruitment activities and student organizations. Keeps detailed and accurate records related to student tracking and reporting. Communicates professionally and confidentially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and community partners. Works as a cooperating and contributing member of the campus team, responding to evolving demographic, technological and community needs, and providing leadership and support in the development of new and enhanced student success programs.

Promotes the vision and mission of Colorado Mountain College.

As Access Coordinator, the incumbent develops, maintains, and disseminates guidelines, policies and procedures as per The American with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) standards for faculty, staff and students. Coordinates assistive/adaptive/alternative technology and other services to meet the accommodation needs of students with disabilities.

Pre‑requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)

Education and experience sufficient to meet the rigors of the position. Examples include a Master’s Degree and two years of related work experience, a Bachelor’s Degree and four years of related work experience, or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.

Experience working with students with disabilities at the post‑secondary level preferred.

Special Skills or abilities related to position:
Knowledge of higher education degree requirements, and current practices and technology utilized in student services. Ability to provide thoughtful academic, transfer and career advising; interpret and analyze placement data and aptitude assessments. Evaluate documentation of disabilities and determine appropriate accommodations. Effectively speak in public and develop and conduct training and workshops. Exhibit exceptional verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Maintain confidentiality, discretion and professionalism.

Organize and prioritize work while exercising flexibility, teamwork and humor.

Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act; local, regional and state, federal disabilities support services programs and agencies. Ability to provide academic and career/life counseling/advising; evaluate documentation of disabilities and determine appropriate accommodations.
