Job Description
As a Telecom / Fibre Backbone Engineer, you will be responsible for performing technical activities at telecommunications sites, including fibre backbone networks, transport systems, and mobile infrastructure environments. Working both independently and alongside remote engineering teams, you will execute planned maintenance, installations, upgrades, migrations, and troubleshooting activities. The successful candidate will have the technical expertise to assess site conditions, analyze network issues, interpret engineering documentation, and ensure successful project delivery.

This position requires a highly reliable and self-sufficient engineer capable of taking ownership of technical outcomes while maintaining effective communication with remote support and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Perform onsite technical work across telecom backbone, transport, and fibre network environments

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and support telecommunications infrastructure and equipment

Execute fibre patching, testing, migration, and backbone network activities

Perform network infrastructure upgrades, equipment replacements, and cabinet swap projects

Analyze fibre measurements and network performance data to identify issues and recommend corrective actions

Coordinate with remote engineering and operations teams to execute project activities

Interpret technical drawings, network designs, patching diagrams, and engineering documentation

Ensure all field activities are completed in accordance with project plans and quality standards

Support network commissioning, testing, migration, and acceptance procedures

Maintain accurate records of completed work, testing results, and site documentation

Required Qualifications & Skills

Proven experience working as a Telecom Engineer, Fibre Engineer, Backbone Engineer, or similar role

Strong ability to work independently at telecom sites with minimal supervision

Experience supporting telecommunications infrastructure and fibre optic networks

Knowledge of telecom operations, maintenance, and field engineering practices

Experience reading and working from technical drawings and network documentation

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities

Excellent communication and coordination skills

Ability to accurately execute technical procedures and follow engineering instructions

Must be currently based in the Netherlands and available to start immediately or at short notice

Nice-to-Have Skills

Previous experience with a Dutch telecom operator or telecom contractor

Experience with backbone, core, or transport network infrastructure

Hands-on fibre splicing experience

BTS (Base Transceiver Station) installation and mobile network experience

Knowledge of microwave and radio transmission systems

Experience with DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) platforms

Experience performing telecom cabinet swaps and migration projects

Ability to analyze OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) and fibre test results

Knowledge of transmission technologies and carrier-grade telecom networks
