The Pre‑Press Technician is responsible for all work performed in the pre‑press process. This includes preflight, troubleshooting, and preparing customer‑supplied PDF files for plate and compiling job tickets for production fulfillment. The role requires working on client images for crisp, perfectly aligned printing, creating physical printing proofs, digital files, and handling the print production of such designs.
Responsibilities- Analyze files provided by clients or in‑house design teams and assess suitability for printing, checking critical aspects of images and text.
- Troubleshoot and fix file issues, including alignment, color, exposure, clarity, grain, and other image and typography problems, as well as manipulating for bleed and registration.
- Convert approved image files for use with digital printing equipment or physical production preparation.
- Operate several presses with different size and color capacities.
- Manage separations and review changes to meet equipment requirements.
- Set up, monitor, and adjust the printing processes.
- Perform light maintenance of equipment, including replacement of consumable supplies as needed.
- Transfer files and proof images electronically.
- Review and plan job scheduling based on verbal or printed instructions by management.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Skilled in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Acrobat and Photoshop).
- Knowledge in Kodak Prinergy, Insite and Preps a plus.
- Knowledge in Enfocus Pitstop Pro a plus.
- Working knowledge in a Macintosh environment.
- 1‑3 years of experience in a pre‑press or graphic design environment for commercial print production preferred.
- Knowledge of press, bindery and mail specifications a plus.
- AA / Graphic Design degree is a plus.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Previous knowledge of production printing.
