Central CHSD #71 is looking for a high-energy, student-centered leader to serve as our next Athletic Director / Assistant Principal
. This is a rare chance to shape both the classroom and the competitive experience for our students, building a culture where academics, character, and athletics work together.
You'll be the face of Central High school athletics in the community and a key member of the building leadership team. You'll support teachers, mentor coaches, celebrate student success, and help every student feel like they belong. If you believe athletics is an extension of the classroom and want to lead programs that build champions on and off the field, we'd love to meet you.
WhatYou’ll Do
As Athletic Director, you will:
- Lead and oversee all interscholastic athletic programs in compliance with IHSA and conference rules and regulations.
- Recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate coaches, building a staff committed to sportsmanship, safety, and student growth.
- Manage athletic budgets, scheduling, facilities, transportation, officials, and event supervision.
- Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility and promote a strong "student first" culture.
- Build strong relationships with families, booster organizations, community partners, and the media.
As Assistant Principal, you will:
- Work alongside the principal to support instructional leadership, school improvement goals, and a positive school climate.
- Handle student discipline using fair, firm, and consistent approaches.
- Take part in staff supervision and evaluation in line with district procedures and Illinois PERA requirements.
- Support building operations, safety planning, supervision duties, and school-wide events.
- Help with student support systems, attendance initiatives, and family engagement.
Required:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Administration (Principal or General Administrative).
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- A commitment to student well-being and high expectations for all learners.
Preferred:
- Prior administrative experience in a school setting.
- Experience coaching or managing athletic programs.
- Familiarity with IHSA bylaws, athletic scheduling software, and event management.
- Completed Illinois teacher evaluator training (or willingness to complete it).
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include board paid TRS and individual health insurance.
