Continuing Education Instructor

Salary: $50/hour

Classification: Part-Time Hourly/Exempt

Reports to: Director of Continuing Education

Olympic College is seeking a Continuing Education Instructor. The main purpose of this position is to teach non‑credit classes offered by Olympic College Continuing Education (CE). Topics will vary based on the instructor’s area of expertise (currently desired topics include ballroom dancing, astronomy, and information technology). CE instructors are not covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement for faculty.

The instructor will create a proposal for a class, including curriculum, duration, outcomes, and materials organization. The incumbent will work with CE staff to schedule class days, dates, and times, prepare the class, teach, and assess student satisfaction.

Essential Functions
  • Research and develop a class appropriate for continuing education.
  • Complete and submit the Course Proposal Form.
  • Identify and determine any out‑of‑pocket expenses that will be incurred by students.
  • Using OC protocols and procedures, create an appropriate curriculum for a class.
  • Develop curriculum with clear outcomes and instruction hours.
  • Coordinate with the CE Program Specialist to determine class location, classroom size, and resources needed.
  • Communicate with other OC departments regarding after‑hour and weekend classes (security), parking permits (security), teaching station (IT), and other identified departments.
  • Prepare the classroom for teaching.
  • Advise potential and enrolled students about class deliverables, expectations, and out‑of‑pocket expenses.
  • Assess student satisfaction with the class.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • (Proven) (Documented) expertise in the topic area, either through experience or education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience.
  • Associate Degree (or higher).
Terms of Employment

We are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered. Hourly employees must work 480 hours in a rolling six‑month period to become eligible for health benefits. They must work 70 hours in any five months for two consecutive years to become eligible for retirement. This is an hourly position scheduled to work up to 18 hours per week, with an hourly rate of $50.00.

Employees are not initially eligible for benefits upon hire but may qualify for deferred compensation, retirement savings plans, sick leave, paid holidays, life insurance, tuition waiver, Employee Assistance Program, fitness center, reduced rate, and priority on‑site childcare on a space‑available basis. Conditions of Employment

Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability. Candidates will be required to complete the Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form as required by WB HB 2327.

The employee must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance of the campus to respond to workplace reporting requirements at the time of hiring. Frequent travel to Olympic College campuses or other sites may occur.
