Description: This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future vacancies. Individuals will be contacted as vacancies occur.
Olympic College is continuously recruiting adjunct faculty to teach courses in Japanese. Candidates must be available to teach in person on the Bremerton and Poulsbo campuses. Olympic College seeks applicants who are dedicated to student‑centered learning, closing achievement gaps, supporting diversity and social justice learning opportunities, and who employ data‑informed decision‑making in their instruction.
Part‑time positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter‑by‑quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur. Candidates who are only available to teach online will not be considered.
- Teach evening, distance, and in‑person classes primarily on the Bremerton, Poulsbo, and Shelton campuses.
- Teach college‑level courses in accordance with the college catalog, schedule of classes, course outlines, course syllabi, and departmental guidelines.
- Prepare and grade coursework, providing quality instruction.
- Provide class syllabi to students and to the division office as requested.
- Maintain accurate records of students and complete required forms.
- May include evening instruction and/or instruction at satellite campuses.
- Communicate punctually with students, faculty, and staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Japanese language or literature from an accredited college or university.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Near native‑fluency in Japanese.
- Ability to teach Japanese I, II, and III.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- College‑level teaching experience.
- Experience with Canvas Learning Management System.
- Effectively teach and impart excitement and enthusiasm in courses.
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching students with little or no background, and to experienced students wishing to further their careers.
- Utilize a variety of methods and modes of instruction to ensure student success.
- Function as a team player.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the classroom, with other faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Appropriately incorporate the use of computer information technology in the delivery of services.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Olympic College’s mission, diversity, and a learning‑centered climate.
- Uphold Olympic College’s values and ethics necessary to maintain a positive climate.

- Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to Human Resources within 30 days of employment.
- Final salary contract will be determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits.
- This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis, covered by the Association for Higher Education. Pay is commensurate with educational background and experience.
- Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite campuses, and off‑campus assignments, including travel, may be part of the instructional load.
- Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon initial hire; eligibility requires 50 percent of a full‑time load for two consecutive quarters.
- Additional hours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count toward this requirement.
