Intensive English Adjunct
Olympic College is seeking an Intensive English Adjunct to teach courses for international students in our college‑level Intensive English program. The role covers subjects such as reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking and listening, pronunciation, American culture, and TOEFL preparation.
Salary$1,000 per credit.
Responsibilities- Teach courses IE‑15 through IE‑102 in accordance with the college catalog, schedule, course outlines, and syllabi.
- Prepare course materials, deliver instruction, and assess student learning.
- Provide and submit synopses to students and the division office.
- Maintain accurate student records and complete required forms.
- Communicate promptly with students, faculty, and staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in TESOL, ESOL, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Basic level computer competency.
- Experience teaching English to non‑native English‑speaking students.
- Experience in the development of intensive English curricula and course content.
- Knowledge of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines.
- Knowledge of the TOEFL exam.
- Ability to negotiate sensitive interactions between different ethnic and cultural identities.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
- Effectively teach and convey enthusiasm in courses.
- Commit to teaching students with minimal or no background, as well as experienced learners.
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods to ensure student success.
- Function as a team player.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Appropriately incorporate computer technology in service delivery.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Uphold Olympic College’s values and ethics.
We do not sponsor visas; only candidates authorized to work in the United States may apply. Faculty must submit official, unopened transcripts within 30 days of employment. Salary is determined by qualifications and credits. This is a quarterly adjunct position. Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits until they have completed 50% of a full‑time load over two consecutive quarters; thereafter benefits such as a retirement plan, sick leave, and tuition waiver may become available.
Background checks will be conducted, and a Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form is required. Employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to campus.
