DescriptionOlympic College (OC) is recruiting a full‑time tenure‑track faculty to teach courses in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. OC is in search of faculty members who are deeply committed to student‑centered education and the promotion of an inclusive and equitable learning environment. As a comprehensive community college, we offer a wide range of programs, including Transitional Studies (e.g., high school diploma and GED preparation, as well as English for English Language Learners), academic transfer and workforce education degrees, and certificates, five applied baccalaureate degrees, and community education services across our two‑county region.
The DMS full‑time tenure faculty position involves teaching didactic, laboratory, and clinical courses, advising students, contributing to program assessment and accreditation (Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC‑DMS) and CAHEEP (Committee on Accreditation of Health Education Programs)) efforts, and engaging in department, division, and college activities to support student success and professional growth.
Essential Functions- Teach and develop courses in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, including lectures, lab instruction, and clinical education;
- Design, implement, and update course curriculum to align with accreditation standards and industry best practices;
- Conduct student assessments using a variety of instructional methodologies and evaluation tools to measure learning outcomes;
- Supervise students in clinical settings, ensuring the application of theoretical knowledge to practical sonographic procedures;
- Engage in academic advising, mentoring, and career guidance for students;
- Participate in program accreditation processes, ensuring compliance with institutional and accreditation body standards (CAAHEP, JRC‑DMS);
- Maintain expertise in the field by engaging in ongoing professional development, research, and scholarly activities;
- Contribute to faculty governance, institutional service, and committee participation;
- Collaborate with healthcare partners, clinical affiliates, and faculty to maintain and expand clinical education opportunities;
- Utilize learning management systems and technology to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes diversity, equity, and student success;
- Participate in local events related to student recruitment and any other activities related to the DMS Program and community outreach;
- Collaborate with faculty to develop, review, and revise the program’s curriculum to support current industry standards and best practices;
- Teach evening, distance, and branch campus courses when required;
- Provide quality teaching, including related preparation, grading, and record keeping;
- Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested.
- Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities.
- Provide student advising for career/academic pathways, mentoring, and support;
- Contribute to the development of the composition curriculum and student learning outcomes;
- Contribute to the assessment of student learning and program outcomes annually;
- Punctual communication with students, faculty, staff, clinical partners, and administrators;
- Maintain physical office hours for student consultation.
- Attend faculty, department, and division meetings and serve on college committees;
- Serve on appropriate college and community committees; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
- The DMS Faculty ensures that the DMS Program remains compliant, competitive, and aligned with industry needs, ultimately supporting student success and workforce development.
- The DMS Faculty position has the authority to make key decisions related to curriculum delivery, student evaluation, and classroom management.
